Toussaint LVourture Essay In 1861, Wendell Phillips delivered a speech about the great accomplishments of the most powerful leader in Haiti; Toussaint-Louverture. The speech was written around the time when African Americans did not have the right to serve in the military. In his speech, Wendell Phillips praises Toussaint Louverture for creating equal rights when it comes to serving in the military. Wendell Phillips uses magnificent examples and metaphors to inform us about Toussaint-Louverture’s great accomplishments; which are creating equal rights for everybody who wants to join the military. Phillips’s purpose is to show people that they can accomplish their goals, if they are willing to fight for them. Toussaint-Louverture reached his goal of allowing African Americans to serve in the military by fighting against many armies and showing them that it doesn’t matter what race a person is. One of the examples Phillips uses is â€Å"Men who despised him as a negro and a slave, and hated him because he had beaten them in many a battle.† It shows that the Britons, Frenchmen, and Spaniards think that Toussaint-Louverture is of little value because of the fact that he is a slave and an African American, but they also fear him because they know what he is capable of. Hoehlein2 The example demonstrates that it doesn’t matter what race someone is and that every person should have the right to live their dream; and if it is a person’s dream to serve in the military, he should be allowed to fulfill it. The metaphor â€Å"We measure genius by quality, not by quantity†¦Ã¢â‚¬  that Wendell Phillips uses in his speech shows that Toussaint-Louverture has the ability to win the battles against those armies because he has the courage to fight for the rights of his people and he has his heart set on creating equal rights for everybody; and not because he has an army of thousands of men. Quality is far more important than quantity and African Americans should have the right to serve in the military if it is their dream to do so. Toussaint-Louverture proved that he was willing to fight for his dream of creating equal rights for everybody. When Wendell Phillips says â€Å"Then, dipping her pen in the sunlight, will write in the clear blue, [†¦] Toussaint-Louverture.† it demonstrates how greatly appreciated and respected Toussaint-Louverture was. He was considered the most powerful leader in Haiti back then because he fought for equal rights and he accomplished his goal. African Americans are now allowed to serve in the military because Toussaint-Louverture made it possible for them to do so.

Life is Calling: How Far Will You Go? There are many organizations today that help great causes and one in particular that I find most imperative. The Peace Core is an organization whose foundation is set on volunteers who dedicate two years or more to a cause they find worthy of their time and energy. The amount of aid and support the Peace Core has given to numerous other countries is overwhelming. The number of countries served and how many people have benefited are just a couple of the notable statistics the Peace Core has achieved. Besides these statistics the Peace Core has something else to offer, inspiration. The Peace Core inspires. Helping others, taking a risk, going somewhere new, experiencing something hands-on are characteristics of the Peace Core that are never left unsaid. Unlike other organizations where money is donated and occasional fundraisers are held, the Peace Core offers a personal experience. The stories and memories will never be lost or forgotten like twenty dollars easily can, wh en it is handed over without distinction to some other organization. There are three websites that portray the values and influential qualities of the Peace Core and I encourage people to explore them here and discover the goals and characteristics of the Peace Core that humanize our lives. The challenge that Kennedy proposed, inspired the organization known as the Peace Core to develop. The Peace Core was officially established on the first of March in 1961. Today, the Peace Core has gone global and is recognized for its accomplishments in AIDS/HIV education, technological and business development, and restoring the environment. The principle of the Peace Core is to bring world peace and friendship between countries. The Peace Core is solely made up of volunteers to further display that the Peace Core is not money oriented but goal oriented focusing on bringing education and happiness to people and countries that need it. The Peace Core is such a huge organization and is the subject of countless websites.

My Favorite Place

Everyone has their own one special place, a place where you can be you, where you can find peace and harmony. A place where you feel happy and comfortable being there. For some it’s a quiet place, for others it might be a hustling, bustling, full of people and movement place. But all of these places have one thing in common, they are places where you’d run into times of both joy and misery. This place for me is my bedroom. It’s a clam and cool place were I could do anything. When you walk in to my room you see bright green walls and blue curtains.These are my favorite colors and make my room that much better. A 32-inch TV that is black and that I use a lot. My bed usually not made and messy is blue and grey and you just want to jump into it. Next to my bed is my light brown desk. This where I do my homework, eat, and use the computer. Then, there is my dark brown soft chair. You can smell the leather chair, the fresh new bed sheets. You can even sometimes smell l ast nights dinner. The refreshing smell of my colon. All these smell combine to create a calm and cool environment for me that I love.As soon as I walk in I can taste peace and quietness. I am just relaxed and it’s the best place to be after a stressful day. I can just turn on the TV and lay on my bed and all that stress goes away. The soft mattress helps a lot with releasing all the stress. These are the things that make my room my favorite place ever. The feeling of relaxation and calmness comes over me as soon as I walk into my room. I can feel the softness in the bed and pillow. It feels as if I am lying on a soft fluffy cloud.There is nothing going through my mind, just the thought of peace and happiness. The sound of peace and quite are the best sounds in my room. There is also the sound of the TV when its on and the sound of the board under the bed when you sit on it. Most importantly it is an relaxing feeling in my room and it is my favorite place. My bedroom is my fa vorite place because I can do anything there and it relaxes me. Everything about it is wonderful and I love it. I can relax in there when I’m tired and it make my day a lot better. My bedroom is the best place ever!
